The cell is the most basic functional and structural element in the human body. Individual cells carry out unique jobs throughout the body, from separating charges to form an electric potential allowing neurons to communicate and the heart to beat regularly, to identifying foreign antibodies, recognizing, remembering and destroying them, cells work in fantastic ways on their own. Combine them in to large task forces and suddenly you have tissues like muscle, nerve, and skin, that work in an elaborate orchestrated fashion. Trillions of cells, working seamlessly together, make up the human body. It’s truly amazing they work as harmoniously as they do.
